Easy Tortilla Pizza

This is not my original recipe. On the contrary, tortilla pizzas can be found on hundreds of blogs throughout the Internet, with minimal differences (or none at all). Nevertheless, it is so quick and simple recipe that I decided to include it into my collection. As I am quite short and slim, I try to search for dishes where I can cut calories in comparison the their original versions – full-fat pizza from restaurant is far too much for me. In addition, I do not like pizzas overloaded with additives, where everything slips when I try to take a bite.

The main advantages of such a tortilla pizza are:

  • speed of preparation – it takes about 20 minutes
  • simplicity – no need to knead the dough and get the whole kitchen dirty
  • low calorific value – classic vegetarian pizza is approx. 1,300 calories (can be much, much more though). Pizza in this recipe is about half the calorific value
  • nothing limits me – usually, in the restaurant menu, on 3  whole pages of different compositions, vegetarian options can be counted on the fingers of one hand

Tortilla pizzas can be developed and enriched in many ways. Pizza base can be done with up to 4-5 tortilla wraps – just why? Yes, we still get a home-made pizza in 20 minutes, without kneading the dough but calorically it’s the same as pizza from restaurant. In such a case, I think I would rather order one with delivery ;-)

RECIPE

The recipe is trivial. If we want light version, let’s choose whole-wheat tortilla wraps, low-fat cheese and only 2-3 favorite ingredients.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 tortilla wrapsa(whole-what are the best choice)
  • passata/tomato sauce
  • 50 g grated cheese (I used low-fat)
  • spices: salt, pepper, oregano
  • favorite Additives (I used cherry tomatoes, green ball pepper, mushrooms, olives)

PREPARATION:

  1. Preheat oven to 180 deg. C
  2. Spread some tomato sauce on tortilla wrap, sprinkle with a handful of cheese and cover with another tortilla to get a pizza base*
  3. Again, spread some tomato sauce on your pizza base, place your favorite additives, spices and sprinkle with cheese of your choice.
  4. Sprinkle the pizza with oregano and put in the oven for approx. 10 minutes.

* You can make the pizza using only one tortilla wrap, but using 2 wraps will get you the base simillar to that of a regular pizza (although it adds some calories to the dish)
