quick energy bars

Carb, protein, oat, fruit – gels and energy bars are the basic fuel of every runner. They are in bulks on the shelves, both in grocer’s and specialized stores for runners. I offer you today an extra-fast energy bar, in the „raw” version, i.e. without baking.

In the internet there are loads of recipes for eneryg bars. Sometimes, though, I have the impression that these recipes are made without thinking – for example, you can’t pack such a bar into a backpack for training, because it melts and falls apart. One of such bars I found very tasty but I had to adapt it to be „portable” – and here it is!

The bars are made extra fast. They don’t require baking, and they can be kept for a few days in the refrigerator. I got 8 bars out of this proportion, but it all depends on how thick you spread ;) Thanks to „wrapping” them in  waffles, they won’t melt and break up – you can take them safely for the run.

INGREDIENTS (8 bars):

  • 150g dates
  • 1 cup (50g) puffed millet/amaranth
  • 50g favourite nuts (I used peanuts)
  • 3 tsp cocoa
  • wafers

PREPARATION:

  1. Soak dates for at least 30 minutes in hot water
  2. Grind nuts to flour
  3. Mix all the ingredients (except wafers) well. The mass should be very dense.
  4. Spread the mass on the wafer and cover with another. Gently cut and store in the refrigerator.
