Three years running!

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Yesterday, reviewing my workouts diary, I discovered that exactly 3 years ago – 19.07.2012 – began my running adventure.
I remember the day like it was yesterday. Over the past few months I struggled with to loose weight, exercising 15 minutes a day at home (always after work) and I felt that my condition improved greatly.

I have just began my holiday from work and decided to visit my family and hometown. The weather was too great not to go out and do something. Although up until now I had only bad memories with running (from school days), I had no running shoes or any sportswear, I felt I needed something new – some change from the daily exercise routine. I put on my sweatpants and heavy trekking shoes (middle of July!), activated GPS application on my smartphone (I’m so glad I did that – now I know exactly when it all began) and started to jog. I decided to do only a short test run, small round in the closes vicinity, because I assumed I will be out of breath very soon. As a result, I ran 2.7 kilometers at a rate of 5:19 min/km and upon reaching home, I realized that I felt quite all right. Apparently these months of exercises had done their job! 3 days later I ran 4 km, and a month later I was running 10 km in one running session. It swallowed me completely.

For the last 3 years I ran a long way – 4060 km in 350 hours – and took part in various races, experienced the most common injuries and made almost all common mistakes of amateur runners. I bought a lot of running equipment (heart rate monitor with GPS, thermoactive shorts and T-shirts, professional running shoes, socks and compression bands, trail-running backpacks and a ton of other accessories), corrected my technique of running and experimented with different „fuel” types. Despite the miniature running library on a shelf at home, regular internet digging in search of new solutions and hundreds of hours of testing, today I still feel like a rookie, learning something new every day.

And so, one day I felt the need to create this website – in order to arrange all the collected knowledge and to share the conclusions and results of all the tests done on myself. Interestingly, it happened that this new project (Lepiej Biegać webpage) falls precisely on the day that marked full 3 years of my running adventure. I hope that this place will help me gather and organize my knowledge and experience. I also believe (nay! I know it!), that there is a multitude of people like me, searching online for easily accessible information that will enable them to improve their health and the technique of running.

It will bring me only satisfaction to see that this page helped even one person or influence someone to share my addiction – running!
